Our case studies highlight learning and innovations from ResilienTogether. They share new approaches and techniques that can be replicated by other schemes and organisations across the country. They also demonstrate how practical innovative actions can work to improve resilience to flooding,

The University of Exeter has undertaken a Smart Stormwater Management Review with a comparison of two leading stormwater level sensing technologies.

The University of Exeter’s Smart Stormwater Management Review compares leading stormwater sensing technologies. Stormwater sensors are devices capable of monitoring and transmitting environmental parameters such as water level, velocity and flow within a stormwater system. These parameters require different sensors including quantity sensors, proxy sensors and direct sensors.

We have learnt from the University of Exeter’s Smart Stormwater Management Review, completed for ResilienTogether the advantages of different kit specifications.

Some of the advantages of the Rugged TROLL 200 Data Logger & VuLink are:

  • Advertised two year / 2M reading battery life for logger;
    Geo-Environmental estimate ~8 year battery life
  • Sensor accuracy 0.05% FS, resolution 0.01% FS

To find out more about the learnings from the University of Exeter’s review and compare with the Elsys ELT 2 i Maxbotix Ultrasonic,  view the learning digest in full here.

Some of the disadvantages of the Rugged TROLL 200 Data Logger & VuLink are:

  • Easy Win installations indicate advertised telemetry battery life is optimistic
  • No external power supply option

Some of the disadvantages of the  Elsys ELT 2 i Maxbotix Ultrasonic are:

  • Ultrasonic sensor requires unhindered path to water surface
